Obituary

William (Bill) C. Meador, age 93, formerly of Lanark went to his heavenly home July 11, 2025. William was born April 3, 1932 in De Smet, South Dakota to Myrtle Boltz Meador and Arthur Meador. William Graduated from Mt. Carroll High School in 1950. He married Betty Hertensen November 15, 1952. She died in February 1965. He later married Carol Benell. William was a heavy equipment operator with Local 150 and was a proud lifetime member of the union. He traveled multiple states in his working career. One of his favorite memories was working on the Navajo reservation in Arizona, where he demonstrated his dancing skills and was invited to become a member of their tribe. He was a 10- year Moose member. Bill was a faithful member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God bible study group and was an avid gardener. He had a kind and giving heart and would often share his produce goods with family, friends and neighbors. His favorite past times included playing cards, puzzles, joining his friends for coffee at the local restaurants, and most of all attending many dances to share his Indian dance.

Bill is survived by his Son Ron Meador, Chadwick; Daughters: Pam Myers (Rick), Lanark; Donna (Joe) Janssen, Chadwick; son-in-law Hank Baer, Williams, AZ, and his nieces/caregivers Linda (Doug) Johnson, Freeport; and Lisa (Saul) Rodriguez, Erie. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many more nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty, his wife Carol, Daughter Barbara Dunbar, Daughter Jackie Baer, and Brothers Dale, Dean, Donald and Eddie, and daughter-in-law Sue Meador.

A Celebration of Life will take place on August 12, 2025, at the American Legion, 712 4th Avenue, Rock Falls, IL.  A special time of memories and honoring Bill will take place from 5-6 followed by a celebration of his life through music and dancing starting at 7pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lanark Fire Department or Rock River Hospice of Sterling.
