Obituary

William David Gums, 72, of Freeport, IL, passed away on March 10, 2024 at home. He was born on March 7, 1952 in Savanna, IL, to Clarence W. Gums and Rita F. Beem (Ostendorff). He was a farm hand for 20+ years until retiring 2 years ago, and a truck driver for many years prior to that.

His hobbies were riding and taking care of his horse, going to rodeos, and watching old westerns.

Survivors include his beloved horse Zippo Belle Star, one sister: Marjorie (Craig) Bower of Freeport, seven half sisters: Wendy (Craig) Kubatzke of Freeport, Wanda Gums of Freeport, Lori (Robert) Huenefeld of Freeport, Elizabeth (Juan) Martinez of Freeport, Jody (Gene) Diestelmeier of Elroy, Trisha (Mike) Sigemeier of German Valley, and Suzette Gums of Iowa; two half brothers: Donald Beem of California, and Mark Beem of California; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and his caretakers: Craig Bower (Nephew) and Tina Oppold (Niece).

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents, and one sister.

A visitation will be held on Saturday March 16, 2024, from 12 noon until 3 PM, at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, IL.

Inurnment at Freeport City Cemetery.
