Obituary

Wayne Derrer, 90, of Lanark, IL, passed away on June 8, 2021 at Allure of Mt. Carroll. He was born on October 7, 1930 in Rural Lanark, to Howard and Marie (Willson) Derrer. He was a 1948 graduate of Lanark High School. He married Fairy Brunner on January 31, 1954 at the Cherry Grove Church. After retiring from farming, he then worked outdoor maintenance at Rolling Hills Progress Center. He was a member of Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren, Korean War Veterans, and American Legion.

Survivors include his son Allen (Judy) Derrer of Lanark, daughter Linda Simler of Lena, grandchildren: Jeff (Amy Slick) Derrer of Baileyville, Justin Derrer of Shannon, Brenda (Randall) Westfall of Rodney, Michigan, Beth (Michael) Gordon of Springfield, IL, and Brittany Simler of Portland, Oregon; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Fairy in 2012, son-in-law Duane Silmer in 2018, and great-granddaughter Hanna Westfall in 2018.

A visitation will be held on Thursday June 10, 2021, from 6-8 PM, at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home, 111 N. High St. in Lanark, IL. A funeral service will be held on Friday June 11, 2021 at 10 AM, at Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren, 14395 Brethren Rd. in Lanark, IL. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL. A memorial has been established for the Lanark Fire Department.
