Velma Jane Norton, 83, of Freeport, IL, passed away on September 28, 2026 at Liberty Village. She was born on April 10, 1943, to Reinhard and Vera (Pierce) Habben. She was a graduate of Milledgeville High School. She married William R. Norton, Jr on December 7, 1963 in Freeport. She was a business secretary at FHN, and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon, IL.

Survivors include her sons: Jim Norton (Heather Cornelius) and Jeff Norton (Angie); and granddaughters: Grace Norton (Nick Brown) and Emma Hendrie (Dan); sisters: Judy Burmeister, Beverly Ethridge, and Donna Arduin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Norton, Jr, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday October 13, 2026 at 10 AM, followed by memorial service at 11 AM, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Shannon, IL. Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
