Timothy William
Hartog
Mar 14, 1960 — Sep 5, 2026
Timothy William Hartog the son of John Frederick and Helen Louise Hartog was born March 14, 1960. He died Saturday, September 5, 2026 at Citadel at St. Joseph in Freeport, Illinois where he was a resident. His family and friends are grateful for the care and understanding of the staff who worked with him.
In his youth Tim enjoyed hunting with his father and fishing with his grand-parents. His family of five enjoyed summers in Boulder, Colorado and summers at a dude ranch in northern Colorado. Tim loved taking friends and family out in his boat on the Mississippi. He enjoyed concerts- the Eagles, U 2, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Stevie Nicks, and Cheap Trick were some of his favorite artists. Tim worked on cars long before he could drive. He was a loyal Ford driver having worked as a mechanic for Ford for over twenty-five years. He especially loved his old Bronco he called Grandpa and he and his ex-wife, Michelle explored Colorado in it. Michelle and Tim were married for 22 years and some of those years were spent in Colorado in their home in Elizabeth, Colorado in the high prairie with Jesse his beloved dog by their sides. His long-time friend, Jim Drake was also a special part of his life in both Illinois and Colorado. He remembered his Colorado years as his happiest.
Tim was a great cook and especially enjoyed grilling pork ribs with Papa John’s barbecue sauce. In recent years Tim returned to Freeport and for years prepared delicious dinners for his mother. Many of his recipes were memorized and he was willing to share them. He enjoyed breakfasts at The Red Apple.
Tim is preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Hartog and his sister, Susan Hartog. He is survived by his brother, Thomas Hartog (Lynn Hartog) and nieces Lauren Hartog and Dr. Leigh Hartog (Dr. Cody Calhoun) to whom he was a kind, interested, and loving uncle.
