Susan J. Conkling, 72, of Freeport, IL, passed away on August 21, 2025. She was born on April 30, 1953, in Freeport, to parents Lester and Joyce (Stiegman) Brokhausen. She was a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a longtime member of the Freeport YMCA.

Survivors include her sons: John Carey and Ken (Jennifer) Carey, granddaughter Adrianna (Rhett) Skeel, great-grandchildren: Amelia, Penelope, and Rowan; brothers: Jim (Kathy) Brokhausen and Dennis (Chris) Brokhausen; significant other Bill Boeke, 2 nieces Tracy and McKenzie, 1 nephew Casey, and great niece Reyna.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Rick Conkling.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday August 31, 2025, at 2 PM, at the Freeport Eagles Club.
