Sonja M. Downey, 87, of Freeport, IL, passed away on April 14, 2026. She was born on January 19, 1939 in Dodgeville, WI, to Newman Anderson and Opal J. Steiner. She was a graduate of Madison Central High School in Madison, WI. She married David M. Downey on October 11, 1967 in Madison, WI. She had worked at Feico Inc.

Survivors include her children: Paula Wilson of Carlsbad, CA, Charles Puccio (Joe Szews) of Hatley, WI, and Noelle Downey of Freeport, IL; grandchildren: Tiffani Puccio, Jeci (Andrew) Wilson-Tomac, Whitney (Andrew) Bower, and Chelsea Rademaker; great-grandchildren: Jayden, McKenna, Kinley, Lanxton, Hudson, and one due October 2026.

She was preceded in death by husband David M. Downey (5-6-1986)

Memorial service will be held on Saturday April 18, 2026 at 10 AM, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
