Obituary

Ronald Edward Mashaw, 84

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Edward Mashaw on March 30, 2025 at Walnut Hill Acres nursing home in Freeport, Illinois.  He was born in Syracuse, New York on October 24,1940 and grew up in Tully, New York.  After moving to the Freeport area he met Jean Elaine (Stichter) and they were married on November 14, 1959.

Ron worked at W.E. Kautenburge and Kelly Springfield before starting his own lawn mowing business.  This was his passion he shared with son Mark for several years forming R & M maintenance.  Ron would go on to service several customers up until the age of 80.  He loved racing and being a spectator at the Freeport Race track and talking with many friends on his CB radio.  The coffee was always ready for anyone that came to visit.  The past few years he continued to form new friendships.  His love of NASCAR and the Vikings football was shared with many!

Ron and Jean had five children: Gary Mashaw, Ron Mashaw (Sandy), Tina Rubin (Jerry), Mike Mashaw (Stephanie), and Mark Mashaw (Danyel). This provided them with grandchildren: Nikki, Heather, Grace, Michael, Amber, Merrilee, Katlyn, Becca, Brittany, Mark, Chelsey, many more great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandsons, nieces and nephews.  A special mention to Tyler of whom was raised by Ron and Jean. Ron was survived by his siblings: Julie Phelps, Sue Palmer, and Laura Meyers.  Ron is proceeded in death by his father, Carl Mashaw and his mother, Marion (Schreyer) Phelps, brothers Robert Mashaw, Phillip Mashaw, sister Phyllis Carr, wife Jean Mashaw, sons Gary Mashaw and Michael Mashaw.
