Ronald E. Kohl, 89, passed away on October 24, 2026. He was born in Freeport on March 4, 1937 to Russell K. Kohl and Elsie (Knodle) Kohl. Ron met Barbara Jo Squires, the love of his life, while working at Fullerton Bakery. Later he worked for Burgess Battery then Modern Plating until his retirement. He was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and owned a number of his albums and memorabilia. Ron and Barb were married for 60 years. Over the years Ron and Barb owned and loved several dogs, especially Lucky, to which they loved to spoil. 

Ron is survived by his Aunt Priscilla (Watson) Knodle and cousin, Linda Knodle; along with several cousins and aunt; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law including Kathy (Kitty) (Shirl) Wise; nieces-in-law and nephew-in-laws including Lori Castle. 

Ron was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Jo; his parents, his Uncle Robert (Bob) Knodle his Aunt Leola (Peg) Tewel; his in-laws, Robert and Evelyn (Gale) Squires; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. 

A graveside service will take place at Noon on Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at Grandview Cemetery, Freeport, Illinois. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at 1:00, following the burial, at Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, Freeport, Illinois.
