Ronald James Kalina, age 77, of Freeport, Illinois passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2020, at home with his family after several months of health issues.
He was born December 11, 1942, in Belle Plaine, Iowa to Milo & Agnes (Nekola) Kalina and grew up in a hardworking and loving family with five brothers & sisters whom still survive today; Larry (Betty) Kalina, Robert (Sandi) Kalina, Charlene (Kevin) Willaby, Nancy (Gene) Garling & Dan Kalina. He grew up in Elberon, Iowa and graduated from Keystone High School.
Ron enlisted in the National Guard after high school and served his country well. He was married to his wife of 56 years, Cheryl Ann Bates on January 4, 1964 in Vining, Iowa. He worked for years in farming, farm management, construction and sales of the nectar of life. He lived amongst the outdoors, farming, hunting, gardening, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl, his daughter Christine (Roger) Kyler, and his sons, Scott (Kathy) Kalina and Mark (Astrid) Kalina. His grandchildren, Wesley, Samuel, Michele (Jerry), Brian (Tricia), Samantha and Amelie and great grandchildren, Sabrina, Annabel, Danielle and Arianna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and parents in law.
Arrangements are with Schwarz Funeral Home. Due to COVID-19, the family is forgoing a public memorial service. Condolences or memorial donations can be sent to the family.
Ron will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank the doctors & staff at Swedish American Hospital, the entire staff at Star Ambulance and especially FHN hospice for their excellent care and services.
