Rita A. Hoffman, 92, of Freeport, IL., passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Walnut Acres nursing home in Freeport. She was born June 1, 1930, in Bernard, IA., the daughter of Matthew and Mary (Sterbenz) Gregorich. Rita married Paul Hoffman on September 22, 1956, in Dubuque, IA.  Paul passed away on August 1, 2013. Rita worked as a cafeteria worker for many years at the Freeport Junior High School. Rita enjoyed volunteering for various church-related functions in her earlier years before her health declined. Rita enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working on word puzzles. She rooted for any team that was playing against the Chicago Cubs. Rita was also a serious Green Bay Packer fan.

Rita is survived by her son, Michael (Vicky) of Lena, IL., two grandsons, Nicholas (Erica) of Port Byron, IL., and Andrew (Madison Palmer) of Aurora, CO., and two great-grandchildren, Sydney, and Mitchel of Port Byron. Rita is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, a son, David, her parents, her brothers: George, Francis, Albert, James, Anthony, and John; and sisters Cecilia, Helen, and Lucille.

Funeral services will be at St Joseph Catholic Church in Freeport on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens following the services.
