Obituary

Patricia Ann (Patty) (Neuschwanger) Hartman was born May 26, 1930 to Earl and Hazel (Eyler) Neuschwanger. She was the youngest of seven siblings Bill, Bob, Tom, Sis Jean, Joyce. She attended elementary and high school in Mount Carroll, IL. She worked at the watch factory in Elgin, IL for a short time. She also worked at the local movie theater where she saw Jim walk by when she worked. She then saw him at Isenhart Soda Shop where she flirted with him and as they say, the rest is history.

Patty married the love of her life James Edward Hartman (a recently returned WW II veteran) February 3, 1949. An interesting fact is that Jim and Patty had six flat tires during their trip to and from the Wisconsin Dells for their honeymoon. Patty set upon a life of raising their six children, and Jim began his long career with InterState Power Company. Patty was a wonderful homemaker. She kept the house immaculate. She was a great cook and enjoyed baking. She was also known for her great budgeting skills. During summertime, the whole family would load up and go out to Maders and spend the day working the garden planting, weeding, caring for the garden, harvesting, and canning the produce. Summers were also highlighted by visits to Elgin and Wrigley Field to watch the Cubs play. Jim and Patty lived up the hill from her parents so there was always interaction between them and the rest of the family. The family was also busy with school and community activities sports, band, Boy Scouts, and family activities. There were also large extended family gatherings with her six siblings and their families. Patty and Jim and family were lifelong members of the United Methodist Church in Mt Carroll. After the passing of her mother in November 1983, Patty and Jim moved down over the hill to what had been her parents' home and made it their own. Patty's house was always the center of family gatherings. She went to join Jim who passed away November 2021, on April 2, 2023 surrounded by daughters and granddaughters.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Jim, son Kurt, and daughter Kass.

She is survived by her children: Kim (Vicki), Kerry (Jen), Krissy, Kitty Jo (Tim), and Kay (Joe); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and special friend Mary Jean Emery. Any memorials in Patty's honor can be sent to Krissy Hartman or the United Methodist Church. A private family service will be held later per her wishes.
