Patricia A. Bose, 95, a lifelong resident of Freeport, Illinois, a community she was so fond of, passed away May 4th, 2026, with love all around her. Patricia was born in Freeport on February 3rd, 1931, the daughter of Douglas E. Whalen and Helen E. (Steinestel) Whalen.

On June 24th, 1950, Pat married her high school sweetheart, John (Jack) E. Bose, and together they raised four children.

She was the most devoted, loving, and supportive mother to her children. A proud and adoring "Grammy" to her five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a cherished friend to so many.  Her family would joke that Pat never met a stranger.  She loved to smile and laugh and brought that joy to those around her.

Pat was a woman of deep faith and a longtime member of Bethany Church. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through him who strengthens me",
and she dearly loved the spiritual hymn "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands".
Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering spirit touched countless hearts.

Pat was always impeccably dressed, truly a woman of style. After raising her children, she shared her passion for fashion and design by working in local clothing boutiques, where she happily expressed her love of all things fashionable.  She also graced the runways in local style shows over the years.
She was simply beautiful, inside and out.

She was fearless and creative in the kitchen, especially in her younger years.  She delighted in trying new and sometimes complex recipes.  But when the family gathered, the request was always the same: her famous lasagna and her apple and rhubarb pies.  And, maybe her chocolate chip cookies thrown in for good measure.

She became quite interested in football late in life.  This was due to one Patrick Mahomes.  Much to the chagrin of her family of Bears and Packers fans, a diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan was born.

Pat found great joy in life's simple pleasures.  She enjoyed attending her church on Sundays. She was a longtime supporter of all things Freeport, including the Winneshiek playhouse, and the Freeport Art museum. She was an avid gardener, with a very green thumb for peonies and  pots of red geraniums and coleus. She loved animals, especially her longtime companion cat, Cole, who she managed to spoil just short of rotten, as she did with those that came before him.  Time spent sitting or fishing on a dock in the backwaters of the Mississippi river surrounded by the family who deeply loved her.  Lunches and dinners with her many girlfriends, whom she wholeheartedly treasured.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother Zella Whalen; her husband Jack; her brothers Jim, Dick, and Jack Whalen; and her two stepsisters Jerry Arola, and Norma Wolfe.

She is survived by her loving children, Steven (Penny) Bose, Cheryl (John) Banner, Cynthia (Ron Sr) London, and John (Lisa) Bose;
her grandchildren, Justin (Jacey) London, Seth London, Annika London, and Zella and Lindy Bose; her great- grandchildren, Trey and Maya London, and Jack and Parker London; along with several nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank the staff and residents of Liberty Estates for making her years living there happy ones.

Pat will be remembered for many things, but above all for her faith, kindness, gentle spirit, and the love she gave so easily.
She was in every sense of the word, a Lady.

She will be forever missed by her family, and all who knew and loved her.

A private celebration of Pat's life will be held at a later date.
A memorial fund has been established in Pat's memory.  Cremation rites have been accorded.
