Ollie R. Veer, 97, passed away in his sleep at Serenity Estates of Lena on March 1, 2026. Ollie was born in Adeline, IL, on July 16, 1928, to Hans and Mary (Krull) Veer.
At the age of seven, Ollie and two siblings were placed in Kings Daughter orphanage. He attended Harlem and Freeport Schools. Ray Brinkmeier got Ollie out of the orphanage to help work on the farm. That's when he met Judy Katzenberger.
At the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the Army. After basic training in Fort Knox, KY, he went to Point Fort Lewis, Washington. After being discharged from the Army, he returned to Freeport and became an over the road truck driver for 26 years. On a visit to Freeport, he met Judy and they were united in December 1969. They enjoyed 57 years of traveling, camping, snowmobiling, and riding/showing horses.
Ollie worked for Freeport Blacktop, Thermos Company, and retired from Rolling Hills.
Ollie is survived by Judy Shippee, nieces: Teri, Shari, and Jeri Veer, Marla Keaton, Marsha Kreeger, Diane Euler, Susie Kempthorne, Shelby & Judy; external family: Julia Moore, Julian Katzenberger, Jerry (Jean) Katzenberger, Jim (Helen) Katzenberger, and very special friends, the Jason Schubert family.
Ollie is preceded in death by sisters-in-law: Gertrude (Jerry) Munz and Dorothy Harrington; 4 brothers: Harry (Carole), Harm (Evelyn), Leroy (Virginia), and Raymond (Joyce: 1 niece Donna Mudore, and 2 nephews Robert Harrington and Butch Veer.
