Obituary

Nancy Marie O'Leary, 83, of Freeport passed away at FHN Memorial Hospital surrounded by family on July 25, 2021.  She was born August 1, 1937 in Mendota, Illinois, the daughter of Glenn and Ethel (Hartsook) Chamberlin.  She was raised on the family farm outside of Oregon, Illinois.  Nancy was valedictorian of her graduating class at Oregon High School and then attended Northern Illinois University.  She married William W. O'Leary at the Lighthouse Methodist Church on June 21, 1958.

Nancy was a gifted musician, continuously serving congregations as a church pianist and organist since the young age of 9 for a total of 71 years.  Her passion for books and learning fueled her desire to work in the Rockford Public Library for many years and to participate regularly in trivia contests.  She was very well known for her humor, wit and positivity.

Nancy is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Rev. David) Kerner of Powell, Ohio and Susan (Kaneto) Imaizumi of Ossining, New York, one son Kevin G. O'Leary of Freeport, 10 grandchildren, Erin (Charles) Wilson, Karla (Richard Skowronski) Kerner, Joel Kerner, Ken and Mari Takahashi, Megumi and Naomi Imaizumi, Kevin W. (Manami) O'Leary, Ai O'Leary and Maria O'Leary, and six great grandchildren, Emily, Sylvia, Alice, Clara, Rowan and Haven. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Alicia) Chamberlin, brother-in-law Richard Little and sisters-in-law Ellen Morgan and Patricia Chamberlin, as well as numerous nephews and nieces to cherish her memory.  She was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 60 years, her brother, Dr. Glenn Chamberlin and her sister, Delores Little.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021 at 7 PM, with visitation from 4 PM until time of service, at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd, in Freeport, IL.  Rev. Uziel Hernandez Martinez of Centennial United Methodist Church will officiate.  Nancy will be interred next to her husband and among her ancestors at Daysville Cemetery near Oregon, IL.
