Nancy Lou Gill, age 93, of Freeport passed away on Thursday, March 10 at Winn Prairie. She was born July 15, 1932, in Freeport, to Henry and Ruth (Lindeman) Zanoni, graduated from Freeport High School in 1950, then worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Foy Matter DDS. On December 26, 1953, she was married at St. Joseph's Parish, Freeport, to Frederic B. (Fritz) Gill. In the late 1960s she returned to school, earning an Associate Nursing Degree from Rock Valley College. Nancy then worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, WI. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Freeport, the Freeport Garden Club, Germania, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She passed her life-long interest in gardening and cooking on to her three sons, James Gill, Greendale WI, Michael (Sharon) Gill, St. Charles IL, and Thomas Gill, Savage MN. Nancy is also survived by her grandchildren Zachary (Gina) Gill, Marissa (Nic) Dronen, and Elise (Dan) Morawski, and great-grandchildren, Liam and Scarlett Gill, and Eloise, Maggie, and Olivia Dronen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister-in-law James and Jean Zanoni Sr, infant nephew James Zanoni Jr., in-laws Brook and Robert Gill, and many relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 1400 Kiwanis Dr., Freeport, on Saturday, March 14, from 9:45 to 11 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family to benefit the Nursing and Allied Health Division at Highland Community College, Freeport. The Family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Winn Prairie for their loving concern and care for Mom these last two years, and to the staff of 4 East at FHN/Mercy Hospital and Hospice. Schwarz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
