Mikael Allen Gillen, age 32, of Freeport, Illinois, passed away on September 17, 2026. He was born on February 5, 1994, in Freeport to Tonya Wernet and Rick Gillen.

Mikael was a bright, curious soul who found joy in gaming, riding his skateboard, and spending time joking and laughing with friends. He loved tinkering, fixing things, and figuring out how they worked. He was excited to begin a new job and was looking forward to the next chapter in his life.

Mikael will be dearly missed by his son, Jaxsen Gillen; his mother and stepfather, Tonya and Scott Wernet; his sister, Sabreena Gillen; his brothers, Alex (Cass) Lawson, Christopher Barraza, and Damon Gillen; his niece, Kenia Alsaidi; his nephews, Khalid and Kameel Alsaidi; and his grandparents, Dennis (Cathy) Greenfield.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rick Gillen; grandparents, Shirley Kraai, Betty Gillen, and Frank Gillen; and his uncles, John Wilbourn, Frank Gillen, and Joseph Gillen.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9:00–11:00 AM at Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd, Freeport, Illinois. A funeral service will follow, officiated by Pastor Kerwin Brunner. Attendees are invited to join the family for a luncheon and fellowship, following the funeral service.

Mikael’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his presence will be deeply missed.
