Melvin A. Katzenberger, 99, of Freeport, IL, and formerly of Lanark, IL, passed away on January 19, 2026 at FHN in Freeport. He was born on March 17, 1926 to George and Lillian (Koehler) Katzenberger. He married Carol Lee Keckler at Mt. Carroll Church of God, where he was a member and Elder. Melvin, along with his wife Carol, served as a missionary in New Mexico.

Survivors include his wife Carol Katzenberger, sons: Jay (Julia) Katzenberger, Todd Katzenberger, and Tim (Marita) Katzenberger; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lillian Katzenberger, sister and brother-in-law, Ruby & Bob Lowe.

A visitation will be held on Saturday January 24, 2026 at 10 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM, at Mt. Carroll Church of God, 816 S. Clay St in Mt. Carroll, IL. Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
