Obituary

Maureen Rae Davidson, 87, of Freeport, IL, passed away on June 24, 2024 surrounded by family in her home. She was born January 3, 1937 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Raymond and Evelyn Dougherty. Maureen graduated from Aquin High School in 1954 and then Mount Mary College. She was employed at Micro Switch where she retired after 40 years.

Maureen was devoted to the Catholic Church all her life. She always had a positive attitude and a steadfast focus on her family and faith, even during her time with Alzheimer's. She kept a lot of family traditions/celebrations going and they are still in place today.

Family was important to her. Her time with her husband Bob, their six girls and the grandchildren/great-grandchildren were always a priority. (Sports events, dance recitals, birthdays, weddings and other events.) She always made sure each gathering was remembered with pictures.

Maureen traveled to most of the states and a few countries. Her favorite place to visit was Ireland with all of its beauty and always learning more about her heritage.

She was blessed with many talents. Most often, if she wasn't behind her sewing machine quilting, she could be found in the kitchen baking. No matter the occasion, everyone left with some kind of cookie plate or baked good.

Maureen is survived by 3 daughters, Debbie Dorr (Gary), Springfield, IL, Peggy Royster, Freeport, IL, Michelle Royster, Loves Park, IL; 3 stepdaughters, Debbie Salmela (Kirk), Fort Collins, CO, Sally Melvin (Joe), Glendora, CA, Terri Morse (Jim), Schroon Lake, NY; 6 grandchildren, Ryan, Shannon, Chase, Sophia, Ian, and Mitchell; and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Davidson, her brother Eugene Dougherty, and her parents Raymond and Evelyn Dougherty.

The visitation will be Friday, June 28 from 4-7 p.m. at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, Il. The funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 29, 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Freeport. There will be an additional visitation at 8:30 a.m. before Mass on Saturday.
