Obituary

Mary Joan Taylor, 92, of Alamo, TX, and formerly of Freeport, IL, passed away on October 5, 2022, in San Juan, TX. She was born at St. Francis Hospital in Freeport on October 30, 1929, to William and Clara (Scheidt) Schadle. She graduated from Freeport Aquin High School in 1947. She married Eugene Taylor on December 6, 1961, in Homewood, IL, and later Norman Schoonover on January 10, 2004, in Alamo, TX. She was retired from the Illinois Central Railroad. Church memberships included St. Joseph Church in Freeport and Church of Resurrection in Alamo, TX. Joan rode her bicycle into her 60s, enjoyed traveling and going to the casino, quilting, and sewing. Joan's faith and generosity to those in need were an inspiration to her family and friends.

Survivors include her stepson Dan Taylor of Florida and his son Scott (Laura) Taylor of Chicago, twin sister Mary Jane Leeman of Freeport, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters, and brothers-in-law: Anna Mae (Art) Cramer, Margaret (Gerald) Boekholder, Genevieve (Jake) May, Frances (Jack) Nichol, brother-in-law Bill Leeman, and daughter-in-law Bonnie Taylor.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 11 AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeport, IL, with Fr. Timothy Barr officiating. Friends may call at the church at 10 AM until time of service. Interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. A memorial will be established in her memory, for the charity of your choice.
