Mary Joan Pfeil, 94, Freeport, Illinois passed peacefully away on 7/28/2026.

Born November 12, 1931, in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar and Genevieve (Norton) Kieckhaefer. She graduated from Aquin High School in Freeport, Illinois in 1949. She worked at Crum and Forster Insurance and Sears in Freeport.

She was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, Freeport, Illinois. Throughout her life, she was devoted to her faith and over the years she served the church in multiple ways, including the prayer chain and singing in the choir.

She was good to everyone and loved her family and friends. She loved babysitting her grandchildren when they were young and getting the family together for the holidays. She enjoyed having coffee with friends, reading, walking in Krape Park, going to Savanna to watch the Mississippi, playing games, going to craft shows and farmers markets and decorating for the holidays.

She is survived by two sons; Daniel Pfeil and Thomas Pfeil, Freeport, Illinois; one daughter, Michele Stadermann, Freeport, Illinois; and 5 grandchildren, Jasmine Lodewijks, Jarred Gallentine, Maryellen Stadermann, John Escamilla, and David Stadermann.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Adele Hayes, Pecatonica, Illinois.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday August 7, 2026, at 10 AM in St Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Freeport, Illinois.

A visitation will be held on Thursday August 6, 2026, from 4 PM – 6 PM, at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, IL.
