Obituary

Lucille Bruning went to meet her Lord on April 27th, 2021.

Known by her family as "Lucy" she was the third child born to Harm and Edna (Zaedow) Bruning.

The Bruning family lived on a farm near Pecatonica until Lucille was twelve years old. At that time, they bought the Zaedow farm on East Kelley Rd near Seward. Lucille attended Leaf River High School graduating in 1943. She attended Eastern Illinois College for two years. In 1963 she received a BS degree from Rockford College. Lucille taught for 46 years, beginning at Poplar Grove Rural school near her home. This was followed by 5 years at Wessels rural school near German Valley. When the rural schools consolidated, Lucille moved to German Valley Grade School where she remained until retirement in 1991. After retirement she spent one year doing Homebound teaching for the Freeport School District.
This was followed by 20 plus years of private tutoring in her home.

Lucille loved to sew, quilt, embroider, do crossword puzzles, and work in her garden. She was also an avid reader. But above all she felt called to teach. She loved her teaching jobs and the children she taught.

Survivors include, sister Hazel Peters, sister-in-law Loda Bruning, brother-in-law Ronald Wiese, and numerous nieces and nephews, special friends Burt and Diane Hammond and Jerry, Cindy, and Jesse Jacobs, Logan and Hunter Miller. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Dorothy, brothers Leroy, Leslie, Wilbur, and Herman Bruning, and sister Lana Wiese.
