Lorna Faye Boyd, 86, of Freeport, died Tuesday January 26, 2021 at Parkview home. She was born August 4, 1934 to Christian (Chris) and Carrie (Reemtsma) Kilker in Forreston. Lorna grew up as a farm girl and had many stories about her childhood on a farm. She graduated from Forreston High School and started her first job at Stukenberg's Department Store in Freeport. She then started her career as a medical transcriber and went to work for Dr. Spencer Phillips who was the first board certified General Surgeon in Freeport. She thought so highly of Dr. Phillips and worked for him and his wife Marjorie for 30 years, until Dr's retirement. They, along with the rest of the office staff, became her dear, lifelong friends who were more like family. Lorna finished her career as a transcriber working at FHN until her retirement in the mid 90's. She loved office work and was highly precise and organized.

Lorna married Ephraham James (Jim) Boyd on September 20, 1969 at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage until Jim's death in 2007. Lorna and Jim loved to travel, especially out West and took many vacations together. Driving through the mountains in CO and visiting Las Vegas were two of their favorite vacation destinations.

Lorna's church life was always extremely important to her. She grew up in the Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church where she was baptized, later joined Our Savior Lutheran where she worshiped for many years and eventually became a member at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In her later years, she especially enjoyed their Shalom gathering and the ministry of Pastor Switz, and always looked forward to attending, until her health didn't allow her to. She moved into her Parkview home in 2017 and felt so fortunate that she was able to spend her last years in such a wonderful place.

Lorna is survived by her daughter Ann (Duane) Burlingame and granddaughter Madelyn Drehmer all of Freeport, her only cousin, Eldon Stukenberg of Forreston. Jim's children also survive her and were a very important part of her life. She has special step grandchildren who she always enjoyed receiving pictures of and looked forward to their visits. Lorna considered Theresa (Noel) Barncord Glastetter a second daughter. She loved telling stores of the enjoyment that Theresa brought to their home.

A private graveside service will be held at Forreston Grove Church with Pastor Willis Schwichtenberg officiating. The family wishes to thank the dedicated nursing staff in Parkview West for the caring and comfort they provided to Lorna, especially during Covid when the family couldn't be there. A special thank you also to her many friends for all their visits, phone calls, cards, and food drop-offs, especially during the last couple of years. She treasured your friendships.

A memorial fund has been established in her name for Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeport. Schwarz Funeral Home is assisting the family.
