Obituary

Kourtney Eugene Pemberton, 47, of Freeport, IL passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Freeport Hospital, after a courageous year-long battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS).

Born on December 3, 1977, in Evanston, IL, Kourtney was the beloved son of Deborah Pemberton and Ronnie Pryor. He was the first grandchild of his maternal grandmother and the first nephew of his mother's four siblings. Kourtney attended schools in the Evanston/Skokie School District, where he quickly became known for his competitive spirit and strong determination.

Kourtney was a person who was easy to love. His heart of gold, intelligence, and wisdom beyond his years made him stand out in every room. Whether on the football field, in a game of spades, or competing in any friendly challenge, with those young and old, Kourtney's competitive nature was ever-present.

Known for his ability to make others feel special, Kourtney had a charm and a sense of humor that could light up any room. His wit and boyish charm made him not only an outstanding friend but also someone who could bring laughter to any situation. Even in the face of illness, Kourtney remained true to his joyful and lighthearted nature, often sharing jokes, memes, and words that only he could deliver, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.

In the fall of 2023, Kourtney was diagnosed with ALS, a disease that would slowly rob him of his physical strength. Despite the challenges of paralysis, he continued to share his humor with friends and family, making his final months a testament to his strength, spirit, and love for those around him.

Kourtney is survived by his cherished children, Karianna (16), Jamari (14), Jha'Kel (9), and Jhurni (7), his brother Keenan Pemberton, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family and friends who loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, grandmother, and his beloved son Jherzey Pemberton.

Kourtney will be forever loved, remembered, and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved him, and his memory will live on through the laughter and joy he brought to those around him
