Obituary

Kathryn Ann Boyd, of Mt. Carroll, IL died at the age of 64 on Friday, April 8. Kathryn (known as Kass) leaves behind her spouse of 44 years David William Boyd, her children Jacqueline H. Boyd (38), David Michael Boyd (36), Leilani Fiatoa-Boyd (36), Elizabeth Marie Boyd (33), Phillip William Boyd and Mayra, and Jazmyn Jo-Ann Boyd (26). She is survived by five grandchildren - Andrew David Fiatoa-Boyd (14), Ailey Cheyenne Fiatoa-Boyd (13), Alaric David Boyd (3), Ayden Boyd and Gracelyn Boyd, as well as her mother, Patricia Ann Hartman-Neuschwanger.

Kass was born and grew up in Mt. Carroll, Illinois where she learned to play the piano, worked at Dairy Queen, and enjoyed time with her siblings and parents. She loved to travel and wasn't afraid of a challenge, which inspired her to move across the country to attend Oral Roberts University where she studied classical music and performance. During her time there, she met and fell in love with David, and they left school to get married. David and Kass bonded over their shared love of children, commitment to family, the belief that one should give back to one's community and their faith. They began their life together by moving around the country while David worked construction. They lived together in Texas, Colorado, and Arkansas. In 1981, they moved back to Kass' hometown of Mt. Carroll where Kass once again became heavily involved in the community. While being a stay-at home mom to her five children, Kass also served as the pianist and organist for the United Methodist Church in Mt. Carroll for 40 years, as well as organizing events like the Turkey Supper and serving on various committees. She loved working with kids and touched many lives during her time as the Youth Group leader and in her role as accompanist at Mt. Carroll and West Carroll High Schools. Kass had many honorary children she nurtured throughout her lifetime with her patience, humor, and wisdom. She was known for having a warm smile, welcoming nature and was always able to tease a smile or a laugh out of even the most reticent teenager. She never let anyone feel left out. Kass' unconditional love for her family, her husband and her community shone through in everything she did. She will be greatly missed.
