Obituary

Joyce Delores (Sturtevant) Pospischil passed away in the early morning hours of April 17, 2025 at Manor Court at the age of 96. Joyce, the daughter of Alvin and Katherine (Kuntz) Sturtevant, was the last living member of her family, her siblings all going before her. She was born March 4, 1929 and married Joseph F. Pospischil in Freeport on May 5, 1951. He passed on January 4, 1997.

Joyce was a graduate of Freeport High School. She worked at Crum and Forster Insurance before starting her family. After her boys were in school, she went to work at Freeport Memorial Hospital working in the billing office retiring after many years of service.

Of the many roles she filled throughout the year, her favorites were those that related to family. Sister, daughter, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and Joe were all about family hosting many gatherings at their home. Most Sunday afternoons found the family gathered for a Bears game or a White Sox game as dad was a Sox fan. She was an avid Aquin Bulldog supporter while her children and grandchildren attended.

We had good laughs with her. Sometimes it was her innocence and sometimes she was the instigator. In her younger days she could be a prankster. One such story was when her oldest brother would make a date with a young lady and then fall asleep. This brother was a deep sleeper and to get him up for his date she would throw cold water on him and then run.

Joyce is predeceased by her husband, parents and son, Paul (September, 2022) and daughter-in-law, Dot (January, 2022). Also siblings Laverne (Ardith), Francis (Ray) and Donald (Joyce).

She is lovingly survived by sons, Stephen (Marsha) and William (Mary) all of Freeport. Also grandchildren Jennifer Elliott, Nicholas, Kyle, Chad, Kelly and BethAnn Pospischil as well as nine great grandchildren and one step great grandson.

Funeral will be April 29, 2025 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Visitation will begin at 9:00am. Rosary will be at 10:15am with Mass at 10:30am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Freeport, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

The family would like to thank Hawthorn Inn, Garden Court and Manor Court for all their loving care for the last fourteen years. Also thank you to FHN Hospice for their assistance.
