Obituary

John "Jack" Rhode (1931-2021) 90 of Freeport, Illinois passed away in his home with his family by his side.  He was born in Freeport, to Kenneth Rhode and Gladys (Matter) Grayson. He was a Korean war veteran who served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant.  He married Dorothy (Bender) on March 20, 1953 and together they had five children.  He was a member of the local 150 operators and retired after many years from Civil Constructors as Superintendent.  He was a member of the Eagles Club, enjoyed wrestling, was an avid sportsman, hunter, fisherman, trap shooter and enjoyed archery later in his life.

He is survived by his children: Sherry (Eddie) Batten of Freeport, John Jr. (Rose) Rhode of Freeport, Mark (Patti) Rhode of Freeport, Jody (Todd) Mercier of Freeport, Pete (Charity) Rhode of Lake Summerset, Illinois, step-brother Gregg Rhode of Peoria, Illinois, step-sister Helen Cummings of Cleveland, Ohio and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great - great grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, step mother Edna Rhode, step father James Grayson, sister Patricia Reed and step sister Debra Rhode.

Special thanks to Jeff and Patti Pederson, FHN Hospice and Ascension Living Saint Joseph Village Adult Day Center.  Visitation will be at Schwarz Chapel on Park Boulevard in Freeport on Monday November 1, 2021 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
