JOHN "JACK" EDWARD BOSE Jack E. Bose 92, passed away peacefully on July 21 , 2023, with his loving family at his side. Jack was born on July 4th, 1931, to Gladys Bose in Freeport, II. He attended Freeport Senior High graduating in 1949. He was a co- captain of the Freeport Pretzel football team, where his teammates called him "Poochie" a name which stuck with him through his entire life.

Jack married his high school sweetheart, Patricia A. Whalen on June 24th, 1950. He went on to enlist and proudly serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. from 1952 to 1954. Jack was employed for many years with Sundstrand Corporation and for several years was plant manager. He retired in 1991. After retiring from Sundstrand Jack had a second career as self-appointed food critic at Don's Oasis where he was always more than happy to bring to Don's attention any imperfections.

He had an everlasting love for his family and for the Great Outdoors, especially the Mississippi river, where the family spent many wonderful years enjoying fishing, water skiing (well into his 70's), duck hunting, horseshoes, golf, and early morning breakfasts of his special "Bisquick" pancakes. The only thing better than those pancakes was his "secret recipe" of homemade fudge.

He was happiest in his boat. Whether he was searching for the big Northern pike that got away, or setting up the ski ropes, waiting for someone to yell "Hit it". He can be credited with turning out some fine skiers, with his teaching tactic of " you can't get back in the boat until you can ski"! Jack had a sharp wit, a great sense of humor and was a talented joke teller. Trust us when we say, we have heard them all.

He enjoyed watching any movie with John Wayne in it, no matter how many times he'd already seen it. He was also a lifelong, tried and true fan of the Green Bay Packers. They drove him nuts some years, but he remained a Packer Backer for life.

Jack had many accomplishments to be proud of in his well lived life. In addition to his family, two of his favorites were, while a member of the Freeport senior bowling league he picked up the elusive "7-10" split. The other was getting a hole in one on # 5 at Park Hills East course.

Jack will be greatly missed by his family and friends, and dogs on golf courses everywhere (he always carried cookies). He is survived by his wife of 73yrs, Patrica A. Bose of Freeport. Son, Steven (Penny) Bose of Freeport. Daughter Cheryl (John)Banner of Miami, Fl. Daughter Cindy Bose (London) of Freeport. Son Jay (Lisa) Bose, Alhambra, Ca. Grandchildren Justin (Jaycey)London of South Beloit, IL. Seth London (Tiffany) of Arlington Heights, IL. Annika London of St. Louis, Mo. (who as a toddler lovingly came up with the nickname "Boompa" which along with Poochie also stuck!) Zella and Lindy Bose of Alhambra, Ca. Great grandchildren, Trey and Maya London, Jack London and Parker London.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Bose, his mother-in-law Zella Whalen and Father-ln-Law Douglas Whalen.

A private celebration of Jack's life will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Jack's memory. Cremation rites have been accorded.
