John "Jack" A. Katzenberger, age 79, died June 30, 2022, at SSM Health Monroe Hospital. He was taken to his Heavenly home surrounded by his loving wife and two children. Jack was born on September 25, 1942, in Shannon, Illinois, to Arnold and Marlene Katzenberger as the third eldest of six kids.
He worked at the cob plant in Waddams Grove, IL, and ran his own trucking business shelling and hauling corn in his younger years. On June 22nd, 1963, he married Jean M. Olthoff at Wesley United Methodist Church in Stockton, IL, and raised two children in Waddams Grove. Anyone who knew Jack knew of his strong work ethic. He went on to work for Harbach Grain Farms with his passion for farming. After leaving Harbach Farms, he drove semi delivering dairy products into Chicago for Dean Foods and had a part-time gig welding for Dean Foods as well. He was hard-working and committed to providing for his family. He was also a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church.
When speaking with Jack, you were most likely talking about antique tractors or farming. Those were his other passions. He enjoyed going to threshing and farm shows, cutting wood, working on welding projects, collecting antique tractors, talking about crops, and enjoyed his dog, Mooshka.
Jack is survived by his wife, Jean. His children: John (Stephanie Mitchell) Katzenberger of Belvidere, IL, and Jaime (Steve) Wulfekuhle of Nora, IL. He leaves behind Grandsons: John Katzenberger, Jordin Katzenberger, Jack Katzenberger, and Brayden Wulfekuhle. Granddaughters are Megin Katzenberger and Bryana Wulfekuhle. He is survived by one great-grandson, Colton Katzenberger. He is further survived by his brothers: Jim (Helen) Katzenberger of Lena, IL, Jerry (Jean) Katzenberger of Delavan, WI, and Julian Katzenberger of San Jose, CA. Along with his sisters: Judy (Ollie Veer) Shippee of Elroy, IL, and Julia Moore of Lena, IL. In addition, many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jeannie Marjorie.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on Sunday September 25, 2022, from 1PM - 3PM, at the American Legion Hall, 316 W. Main St. in Lena, IL.
The family would like to thank SSM Monroe Clinic Hospital and Hospice for their care and compassion during this time.
A memorial has been established in his memory to the Humane Society and Hospice.
