Jeanne A. Benson, 78, formerly of Rockford and German Valley, IL, died Saturday, May 27, 2023, at St Joseph Village, Freeport, where she had been a resident for 10 years. Jeanne was born March 12, 1945, in Mason City, IA, to Merle and June (Scherping) Stone. She lived most of her life in Park Forest, IL, graduated from Rich East High School in 1963, and Illinois State University in 1967, with a degree in education. She taught 2nd grade at Whittier Elementary School in Downers Grove after college. Jeanne married Kim (K.D.) Benson on August 22, 1971 in Naperville.

They enjoyed many adventures together including trips across the country, with special interest in National Parks and Presidential homes and libraries. Jeanne was a Master Gardener and her passion was the beautiful gardens she created both at their home in Rockford and later in German Valley. She was also well known for her love of cats, caring for many over the years, and was a devoted friend of Bill W for 37 years. She will be missed.

Survivors include brother, Robert (Lois) Stone of Anderson, S.C., niece, Tara (Heather) Morrison, Ferndale, MI, her children, Aidan and Keegan Hall, brother-in-law, Kent (Nancy) Benson, Chana IL, his children Erika Benson, Santa Fe, NM., her children, Florian and Hazel Stricks, and Julie VanEenenaam (Kyle), Chicago, and their children, Kenton and Lila VanEenenaam.

Predeceased by: parents, husband, Kim (June 10, 2008) sister-in-law, Nancy Stone, and cousins: Jack Fisher and Richard Hansen with whom she maintained a close relationship.

A graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery, Freeport, Sunday, June 4, 2023, at 11am. A memorial donation may be made to ASPCA or St. Jude's, which Jeanne generously supported.
