Obituary

Janet Lee (Collin) Stocker, 71, of Lena IL, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023 with her daughters by her side.  Jan was born April 11, 1952 to Emmerson and Dorothy (Posey) Collin.  She was the youngest in her family and lived in Dakota with her parents and three brothers, until they moved to Stockton while Jan was in her sophomore year of high school.  She loved caring for the family dachshunds, horses, and goat. She had fun telling the story of when her goat, Tammy, "accidentally" climbed on the school bus with her one day and they had to let her out the emergency exit!  Jan also loved riding horses.  When she was older, she would ride them in parades and trail rides with her mother.

Jan had two daughters, Michelle (aka Missy) and Valleri (aka Jo).  She loved being a mother and grandmother more than anything.  She adored her grandchildren and played right along with whatever game or themed birthday party they had.  Jan could make a microphone out of any hairbrush and sing along with Elvis or Juice Newton while breaking out her impressive dance moves!

Jan had a soft heart; she was intuitive to how people were feeling and genuinely cared deeply for others, including animals.  She loved having long conversations with friends and family on the phone.  Jan was a private person so she didn't enjoy the large crowds found at a church, but she shared her Christian faith with those close to her.  Jan took pride in her home and landscaped yard and tended to both meticulously.  She was inquisitive and independent.  She creatively solved problems with her house before she called on a friendly neighbor or a professional for help.  Jan lived in her home in Lena for almost 40 years.

Jan will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her family, Michelle (Steve) Wegner of Greendale, WI and Val (John) Hanson of Dakota; grandchildren, Danielle and Nathaniel Wegner and Alli and Logan Hanson; her mother and step-father, Dorothy and Bill Holland of Stockton; and her siblings, Ken (Jill) Collin of Freeport, Gene (Anju) Collin of Sugar Grove and Vern Collin of Rock City, as well as many other extended family members.  Jan was preceded in death by her father and sister-in-law, Sandy Schneider.

A celebration of Jan's life will be held at The Rafters in Lena with an Open House on November 19, 2023 from 1- 4pm.
