Obituary

James Thomas Pifer (70), of Freeport died Friday, June 16, 2023, at Freeport Memorial Hospital after extended illnesses.

Born September 12, 1952, James was the son of James W. & Marilyn J. Pifer, both of whom precede him in death. Jim was a 1970 graduate of Aquin H.S. and attended Highland Community College. His life-long professional career comprised of various responsibilities in car dealerships, starting with Meyers Ford in Freeport and subsequent general managerial positions at Ford dealerships in Illinois and Wisconsin. He was well suited for his career and loved serving the public, helping them to secure the ideal car for their needs. He enjoyed golf, tennis, poker, and gardening and was an avid model train enthusiast.

Jim was a large-size man with a comparably-sized persona and heart. He was a devoted big brother to his siblings, two of whom have passed, Anne (Tacl) and Tom; and two of whom survive him, Jeanne (Daniel) Courtney of Marion, Iowa and Michael of Freeport.

He leaves a niece: Michele Tacl (Ocala, Fl.) and several nephews Michael Tacl (Ocala, FL), Cody (Mari Ana) Pifer (El Paso, TX), Hunter Pifer and Logan Pifer (both of Des Moines, IA) and Patrick (Jackie) Courtney (Brooklyn, NY) and Jack (Melissa) Courtney (Cedar Rapids, IA) to also remember him fondly.
