Obituary

Eve Michelle Francis Ann (Goldsmith) Pitterle, 86, of Freeport, IL, passed away February 21, 2022, at FHN following a short illness. She was born November 1, 1935, in Freeport to parents John and Viola (Kuntz) Goldsmith. She was a 1954 graduate of Freeport Aquin High School. She married Leonard A. Pitterle on May 12, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeport. She held jobs at the movie theatre and Fairbanks in Freeport until her marriage. After that was a homemaker until her children were out of school.  Worked part time as an assistant cook at the Stephenson County Jail.  She also spent many hours crafting and crocheting and went to numerous craft shows over the years. She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Freeport. She was a member of the Presence St. Joseph Auxiliary, sang in the church choir up until a few years ago and was a member of the Prayer Shawl and Prayer Tree groups at church. She loved spending time with her family, especially when they were all together playing cards and games. She enjoyed crocheting and spent countless hours crocheting prayer shawls, baptism blankets, lap robes for the nursing home residents and winter hats and scarves for the Salvation Army.

She is survived by her children: James Pitterle, Richard (Sherry) Pitterle, Ed Pitterle, Mark (Nana) Pitterle and Julie (Russ) Mellnick. Several grandchildren: Jaimie and Alex Pitterle, Josh, Jacob and Joseph Pitterle, Heidi Seals, Anne (Jared) Anderson, Allison (Eli) Brouhard, Rebecca (James) Kennedy and Mark (Faith) Mellnick. Great-grandchildren:  Marah Seals, Luca and Olivia Anderson, Lincoln Kennedy and Sebastian Mellnick. Brother: George Goldsmith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Pitterle, parents John and Viola (Kuntz) Goldsmith, sister Barbara Goldsmith and brother John Goldsmith.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1400 Kiwanis Dr. in Freeport, IL, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Peter Snieg officiating. A luncheon will be immediately following in the O'Neill Center at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.

Burial will be private for family at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Freeport, IL.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established on Eve's behalf for the Freeport Area Church Co-Op Food Pantry.
