Obituary

Edwin Anton Alderton, born in St. Charles, Illinois on November 14, 1944, and adopted soon after by the loving childless couple Edwin and Carolyn Alderton of West Chicago, died the evening of Friday, May 31, 2024 at the age of 79.

Ed spent most of his life in West Chicago, graduating from WCCHS in 1962. Ed remained close to a few of his high school and military friends all throughout his life and cherished each one as part of his family. He received his bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University with a major in
business and a minor in economics. He joined the military after high school serving in the US Air Force as a radar tech at various posts, and on Armed Forces Radio in Labrador. Ed went on to serve in the US Air Force Reserves for 7 years after his official tour of duty. Notably, Ed continued his love as an on-air personality for Jack Brickhouse's WGSB in Geneva, Illinois for several years, getting to know both Jack and wife, Nelda, well enough that they arranged for Ed and his father to attend a Chicago Cubs game and meet Ernie Banks before the game. A brief entrepreneurial spirit moved him to purchase a hands-on 24/7 franchise owner/operator Dunkin Donuts in Wheaton, Illinois where the store became No. 1 in district wholesale business along with a thriving local walk-in customer base giving many high school teens an opportunity to learn and earn until he sold the business 3 years later. Ed retired from Orkin Pest Control after many years as a Service Tech and worked security for a high-tech company in Warrenville for a short while. He was a big fan of the Chicago teams: Cubs, Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks, often proudly wearing each team's jerseys. Being a huge comic book fan as well, he thoroughly enjoyed collecting Dell, Marvel, DC, and several others to the tune of over 5,000 issues.

Ed loved his family and enjoyed every visit and phone call with them. Always showing interest or concern in whatever was going on in their lives, with great delight and pride in every one of their achievements and offering sage advice when needed. He was always eager to talk about sports,
history, politics, and especially Rock 'N Roll music artists and songs from the 50's, 60's, and 70's. He loved to laugh, tell stories, enjoyed bicycling, jogging, walking, and known for his penchant for Pepsi, pizza and sweets.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, mother, grandfathers, grandmothers, cousins, aunts, and uncles from the Alderton, Noga, Northrup, and Linton families. He has three sons Bryan (Jami) Alderton of Genoa City, Wisconsin, Erikson (Nichole) Alderton of Carol Stream, Illinois, and Michael Alderton of Warrenville, Illinois. and four grandchildren (Joshua, Anna, Brayden, and Brooklynn Alderton) and his life mate, Dottie (Sabathne') Alderton.

Cremation will be handled by Schwarz Funeral Home, Freeport, Illinois. Interment will be in the Alberton Family plot at Glen Oaks Cemetery, West Chicago, Illinois.
