Dorothy Jean (Dort) Faley, 93, of Freeport, IL, passed away on November 23, 2021 in Hot Springs, AR where she resided with her son, Denny Penticoff, and daughter-in-law, JoAnn after a six-month visit with her daughter, Cheryl Gundry in Florida. She was born on March 27, 1928, to parents George and Edith (Gerloff) Thruman. Dorothy graduated from Freeport High School in 1946. Throughout the years, she served as a class reunion committee member and enjoyed seeing all her former classmates.
Dorothy married the love of her life, Howard Faley at St. Stephens Church in Tallahassee, FL on December 2, 1978. After returning to Freeport, Father Jim Weber blessed the marriage. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, but frequently attended St. Mary and St. Thomas as well. She volunteered for many church duties. She was a Eucharistic Minister for twenty years, administered communion for shut-ins, served funeral luncheons, and was a member of F.A.C.C. and the Marian Society. Her other organizations included the Telephone Pioneers of America (Life Member), Disabled Veterans Auxiliary, Veterans Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Second Indian Head Div. Auxiliary. She was also a regular blood donor at the Rockford Blood Center.
Dorothy's family members were a very important part of her life. She was always there for them when needed. Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl (Arnie Clark) Gundry of Florida, son Denny (JoAnn) Penticoff of Hot Springs, AR, grandchildren Tana Gundry of Florida and Joshua (Emma) Penticoff of Benton, AR, great-grandchildren Christian Troy Cannon of Florida, and Quintin and Roma Lee Penticoff of Benton, AR, sister Betty Williams of Freeport, brothers: Richard (Judi) Myers of Hendersonville, NC and Jimmy (Elaine) Myers of Freeport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Elmo Myers, brothers Robert and Jack Myers, and sister Judith Ann Myers.
A visitation will be held on Monday November 29, 2021, from 4PM – 6PM, at Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel in Freeport with a Funeral Mass on Tuesday November 30, 2021, at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Freeport. Interment will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport.
