Obituary

Donald (Don) Kronberg, 92, passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 20 th , 2021, at Freeport Memorial Hospital.

Don was born in Freeport, IL on October 25, 1928, the son of Ole and Florence (Walz) Kronberg. He attended Freeport schools, and enlisted in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. He was stationed in Korea.

After serving his country for 2 years, Don worked for the Illinois Central Railroad. He began his career at Honeywell Micro Switch in 1950, where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He then worked part-time for Union Loan and Savings for an additional 10 years.

Don loved fishing, bowling, and playing pool with his family and friends. He loved animals, and enjoyed feeding the wild birds.

Don married Marian Trapp on October 16, 1954. They were married for almost 67 years. Their marriage resulted in two children, Connie and Kevin, who were the loves of their lives.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Florence (Walz) Kronberg.

Don is survived by his wife, Marian (Trapp) Kronberg from Freeport, his older sister Shirley (Kronberg) Anderson (and husband Maurie Anderson) from Rockford, IL, his daughter Connie Kronberg from Freeport, his son Kevin Kronberg (and wife Carolina Nava) from Arizona, two grandchildren - Stephanie Reece (and husband Joe Palermo) from Carbondale IL, Craig Reece (and Brianna Golden) from North Carolina,
five great-grandchildren – Ariana, Michael, and Kadence Palermo, Adam and Rowan Reece, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial has been established in his honor for the Humane Society of Freeport, Illinois.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 27 th , at the Oakland Cemetery Mausoleum building, 2619 W. Pearl City Road, Freeport, IL, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with an internment service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend. Social distancing and face masks are required.

Following the internment, a memorial Mass will be held for Don at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 229 W. Washington Place, Freeport IL, at approximately 12:30 p.m.
