Dennis Piefer ("Denny"), 76, passed away the morning of Tuesday, February 18th, 2025 peacefully at home after a battle with cancer. Dennis was born on October 19th, 1948 in Freeport, IL to Leroy and Elizabeth (Morton) Piefer and graduated from Freeport High School with the class of 1966. He met his wife Bonnie (Lubenow) Piefer during his career with Eagles and they married on November 8th, 1989.

Denny had a love for dirt racing and photography in which he spent most of his life traveling the highways and interstates of the Midwest following his favorite drivers. Eldora Speedway always held a special place in his heart. He called it his "Heaven on Earth", as he would roll over the hill on 118. Outside of racing he was a big sports fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, any team Mike Ditka or Peyton Manning were involved with and like many of us, a fan of the notorious 90s Chicago Bulls.

Dennis is survived by his wife Bonnie. His daughters Sara Piefer (Lisa Lamb) and Nikki Piefer (Matt Hepler), his sons Brett (Michele) Piefer and Andy (Molly) Piefer, stepsons Eric Wellman and Tyler (Jessica) Wellman, grandkids Ryan, Dylan, Teagan Piefer and Millie and Ned Wellman; and his two brothers Brian and Roger Piefer, nieces and nephew.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Royce.

Services will be held at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport, IL, on Saturday, March 1st, 2025. Visitation is from 9am- 11am, with a short ceremony to follow. Casual clothing and racing attire is encouraged for family and friends, in honoring his love of the sport.

The family wanted to give a special thanks to Unity Hospice for their wonderful staff and services. A memorial has been established in his name.
