Craig (Woody) Wittbecker, 67, of Freeport, IL, passed over into God's Loving Light on Thursday November 11, 2021 at FHN Memorial Hospital. Born November 26, 1953 in Freeport, he was the son of Harold and Mona (Chappell) Wittbecker. On September 25, 1999, Craig married Melissa Keister in Freeport, bringing with her a son Josh and a daughter Sara, whom he loved as his own. Melissa preceded him in death in June 2006.
Most of Craig's life he worked for the Freeport School District, surrounded by so many children over the years, who called him Woody. He started working for the school district in 1984 until he retired in 2015.
Craig loved going camping for many years. Also with his family and friends, traveled many different places to car races in and out of the state.
Craig will be deeply missed by his stepson Josh Keister of Winslow, stepdaughter Sara Keister of Cedarville, and his grandson Emmett Keister. He will also be missed by 3 sisters: Marcia (Don) Martin, Lynne (Jim) Kloepping, and Vicki Long, all of Freeport; his 3 brothers: Bruce (Donna) Wittbecker of Thomson, Todd Wittbecker of Monroe, and Les Wittbecker of Freeport. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and special friend Dawn Janike.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister Cynthia Babb, half brother David Wittbecker, and half sister Carol Ann Amato .
A visitation will be held on Tuesday November 16, 2021 from 4PM – 6PM, at Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd in Freeport. Funeral service will be Wednesday November 17, 2021 at 1 PM, at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, with Pastor Steve Rios officiating.
