Christopher D Keeney, 41, of Freeport, passed away on July 3rd 2026 after a fierce battle with cancer. He was born on January 12th, 1985 to Gerald L Keeney Jr. and Pamela Kay (Aeling) Keeney. He was a 2003 graduate of Lena Winslow High School and several years later served in the United States Army and did a tour in Iraq.

Chris married Emily Penticoff in 2026 in Freeport IL where they were raising their 3 young children. He was employed by Walmart as a department manager for several years and most recently was employed at Berner Food and Beverage.

Growing up, Chris was a Boy Scout, played Little Legue Baseball, and was on the track and Le-Win Football team during High School. Of course, being the smallest on his team, he didn’t get to play much but still he enjoyed being part of the team. In his spare time, Chris loved to play video games and spend time with his children.

He is survived by his wife Emily, son Gabriel, daughter Gracie, and youngest son Brandon, Father Gerald L (Tracee) Keeney Jr., 2 brothers, Mike (Vicki) Keeney and Mark (Lauren) Keeney, 2 sisters, Ashley Brown and Arielle Keeney, and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his Mother Pam K (Aeling) Keeney, stepbrother Jeremy S. Kendall.

There will be a short visitation on July 25th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel at 608 S. Park Blvd., Freeport IL, 61032. A private burial of ashes will take place at a later date at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. All donations received will go toward the care of his children.
