Cheryll Ann Rahn Matznick of Lanark passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 1, 2020.  She was born to Betty Hartman and Ronald Rahn on May 9, 1946.  Cheryll grew up in Lanark, Illinois and was a graduate of Lanark High School. She was also a member of United Methodist Church in Lanark.

Besides her many friends, she will be missed deeply by her family; sisters Kim (Trent) Robinson of Shannon, Margo Birkner of East Peoria, Marcy Misiewicz of Shannon, Meg (Lee) Hafer of Rockton; nieces and nephews Merrick, Macy, Mallory and Maddox Misiewicz and Keli Knuth and Kari Albers; her dear friend Janie Dollinger of Lanark and by her very special "family" Vickie and Beaver Miller of Mt. Carroll.

Cheryll was an avid gardener, an animal lover, and an exceptional cook.  (She put Paula Deen to shame in the butter department!) She enjoyed canning and sharing the 'fruits of her labor' with family and friends.  She relished working on the farm in Stockton and especially helping her younger siblings prepare their Show Cattle for county fairs in the area. For a time, she raised horses that would race at the Quad City Downs. She had a special way with animals, whether it be cats, dogs, cattle, or horses.  She would have rescued them all if she could. She will be missed by her beloved kitties Skeezicks and Patches.

Cheryll loved a good gathering of people, good conversation, good food, and full-belly laughter. Back in the day, the family "elders" liked to throw together homemade Tom & Jerrys for Christmas celebrations, which included playing cards, games, and storytelling. She loved to watch her Dad play baseball and her younger siblings loved to hear the stories about those days.

Besides her laugh, her family will miss her generosity and selflessness, her kind heart, and her brutal honesty; it wasn't very often you had to wonder what was on her mind, because she would usually just tell you. Cheryll loved spending time with her family and friends, and especially treasured the time she got to spend with her nieces and nephews.  She was proud beyond measure of each of them.

She enjoyed being part of the Lanark community and could be seen during the Old Settler Days celebrations tooling around town in one of the golf carts making sure things were going as planned and keeping people in line. She also had such a great time helping out at Dollinger Tree Farm with her good friend, Janie, and the other ladies who worked there.

Cheryll was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her brother, Timothy Spaulding.

Per Cheryll's wishes a graveside service will be held at Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 10:30 am, Lanark Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the United Methodist Church, Lanark.

A memorial fund has been established.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Cheryll's honor to the Lanark churches volunteer group "Workation".  They provided blessed services to Cheryll and the family is forever grateful.
