Obituary

Charles Paul Koppi of Freeport, IL, age 83, passed away with his family by his side May 22nd, 2021 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. Mr. Koppi was born January 25th, 1938 in New Ulm, MN to Frank and Gladys (Skoog) Koppi. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm in 1955. He attended St. Johns University in Collegeville, MN and received his BA degree from Mankato State College (now Mankato State University), Mankato, MN. He received his Masters Degree in Mathematics Education from Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA.

Mr. Koppi married the former Mary Ennis on July 23, 1963 in New Ulm, MN, who survives with their son, Brian, of Chicago, IL.

Mr. Koppi taught high school mathematics in Colwell and Clarion, IA before moving to Freeport, where he would teach Jr. High School Mathematics and Computer Science for 30 years.

Mr. Koppi's memberships include the National Education Association, IL Education Association, Stephenson County Retired Teachers, Golden K Kiwanis, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as usher for many years.

Mr. Koppi is also survived by his brother Joseph (Charleen) Koppi, of West St. Paul, MN, his brother-in-law Patrick (Joyce) Ennis and sister-in-law Carol (Joel) Sebby, both of Clarion, IA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Vincent and Regina Ennis, his brother and sister-in-law Francis and Myla Koppi, sister and brother-in-law Donna and John Boben, and sister and brother-in-law Katherine and Richard Allen.

The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, May 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Reverend Timothy Barr officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Schwarz Funeral Chapel on Park Blvd. in Freeport. A memorial has been established in his name for the Golden K Scholarship Fund.
