Betty Pearl Ray, age 96, born March 6, 1930, passed away peacefully at Liberty Village Manor Court, Freeport, IL, and went to be with Jesus her Savior on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Many thanks to the Liberty Village staff and Dr. Miller who embraced her and cared for her with all of their hearts, as well as Mercy Health Hospice. She also enjoyed eight years of new friends, great staff, fun, love, and SINGING at Heritage Woods of Freeport!

Betty was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, into an Army family, and eventually met Sgt. JC Ray and married him in Bremerhaven, Germany. They married on June 1, 1948.

Her passion was painting Folk Art and Rosemaling and was featured at many art shows and fairs. Many people in the area have enjoyed her creations. Prior to that, she was also a bowling coach at Strike at Reitsch’s in Rockford, where she even started a bowling league for the blind. She also received various awards and bowling trophies.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Ray and Barbara Johnson, two granddaughters, Lori Dennis and Elizabeth O’Hea, and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her Bible buddy and love for these last precious years, Denny Bollon, as well as his ever-loving and ever-thoughtful daughter Jenny.

Preceded in death by parents William and Pearl Warner, brother William Warner, granddaughter Cristine Carlson-Ellsworth, and husband of 73 years JC Ray.

No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Freeport, Illinois, 413 West Empire Street, Freeport, Illinois, 61032. The family is very grateful for their care, love, visits, and providing transportation to services. She really felt like part of the congregation.

Betty made friends wherever she went!
