Obituary

Arthur L. Krieger, 87, formerly of Freeport, IL, passed away on June 15, 2024, in Belvidere, IL. He was born in Freeport on April 12, 1937, to Calvin and Clara (Knopf) Krieger. After graduating from Aquin High School in 1955, he served in the United States Army for four years.

Art married Janet Duray on August 22, 1964, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Freeport. He owned and operated Art's Shell in the 1960s and '70s and was part owner and operator of Freeport Rental for several years. He was also employed at General Auto and retired from Western States Insurance after 20 years. After retirement, he worked part-time for NAPA and enjoyed spending his free time on Park Hills golf course.

Art was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Church and Knights of Columbus. When his children were growing up, he coached Little League baseball and Aquin Jr. High football. Art was a lifelong fan and supporter of Aquin sports and was president of Aquin Booster Club during the mid '80s.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Janet; sons, Thomas (Mary Ernesti), Paul, and Edward (Becky); grandsons, Timothy (Laura) and Matthew (Sarah); and great-grandchildren, Tegan, Sawyer, and Brixon. He was preceded in death by his siblings Betty, George, Donald (Barb), and Mary; and nephew, Joseph.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 1: 30 p.m. at Schwarz Park Blvd Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd, Freeport. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Joseph's Church, Freeport, IL.
