Freeport, Maria Angeles Alonso, 87 yrs. old, of Freeport passed away Sat. Sept. 29, 2012 at FHN Memorial Hospital. She was born on December 30, 1924 in Havana, Cuba the daughter of Eloy and Maria (Cabrera) Mejido. She was a graduate of the University of Havana and married Manuel Alonso on March 23, 1952 in Havana. She was a retired pharmacist. Maria was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the Marian Society, and TOPS Freeport, Il. #1689. Surviving are five children, Dr. Manuel (Sheryl) Alonso, Miami, FL., Maria (Ray) Dorn, Elloree, SC., Frank (Grace) Alonso, Miami, FL., Henry Alonso, Freeport, Il. and Miriam Alonso, Freeport, Il., ten grandchildren, Karlena (Ryan) Lamm, Morgan (Brian) Telesmanich, Michael (fiancée, Stephanie Fung) Alonso, Jonathan Alonso, Matthew (Renata) Alonso, Jeremy Alonso, Clayton Alonso, Joseph Lotta, Adam Alonso, and Haley Alonso, one great granddaughter, Sylvia Lamm , two brothers-in-law, Ricardo (Ana) Alonso, Lancaster, PA and Enrique (Amelia) Alonso, Madrid, Spain, one niece and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 12, 1997, her parents, two nephews and one brother-in-law, Armando Alonso. Services will be at 11:00 am on Sat. Oct. 6, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Timothy Barr officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 9:00 am until the time of service. Arrangements are being handled by the Schwarz Funeral Home. Memorials have been established in memory for St. Joseph’s Church and the Senior Center Transportation.
